Position Summary:
The Connecticut River Conservancy (CRC) is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide leadership, oversight, coordination, and execution of the organization’s financial operations.
The CFO will oversee accounting and financial control systems, advise the Executive Director on investments, risk, liquidity, and audit matters, and support the organization’s short- and long-term financial planning. The CFO will also staff the Board Finance Committee and serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
This role will play an important part in supporting CRC’s continued growth and success through strong financial leadership, strategic guidance, and commitment to the organization’s mission.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare and/or oversee analyses of the organization’s financial condition.
- Regularly report on financial health to the Executive Director, Treasurer, Finance Committee, and Board.
- Provide strategic financial advice and direction for short- and long-term planning.
- Guide the development of budgets, tactical plans, NICRA, and performance metrics to support orderly organizational growth.
- Manage financial statement audits and Single Audits as required.
- Review and manage tax returns prepared by external tax service providers.
- Oversee and evaluate investment portfolio performance.
- Assist the Executive Director with organizational risk management, regulatory compliance, and timely filing of local, state, and federal reports.
- Maintain the chart of accounts for all programs and grants.
- Evaluate and improve systems supporting the organization’s financial functions.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Ensure expenditures comply with GAAP, CRC bylaws, and organizational policies.
- Oversee the financial closing process and recording of financial transactions, including general ledger, cash receipts, disbursements, payroll, accounts receivable, and other required financial documentation.
- Ensure accounting of funds complies with applicable state and grant regulations, including allowable costs, governmental auditing requirements, and subrecipient monitoring and management.
- Supervise and provide leadership to the four-person Finance Team.
- Exercise excellent independent judgment and initiative.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
