Position: General Manager
Location: Wayne, PA
Duration: Full Time / Permanent (Day Shift)
Salary: Up to $90,000/year + Benefits + Bonus
Our client is an upscale cafe/ restaurant and retail shop where Afternoon Tea is an occasion, not just a meal. Every guest who comes through the door should leave feeling they experienced something special. The Company is looking for a General Manager to make that happen every day. You'll lead the dining room from the floor and run the whole business, supported by two direct reports: the Chef, who runs the kitchen, and the Retail Manager, who runs the shop.
MANDATORY:
- 3+ Years as a General Manager in an Upscale Full-Service restaurant
- Currently a General Manager in a Full-Service restaurant
- Good tenure - no more than 2 jobs in 5 yrs/ 3 jobs in 9 yrs
WHAT YOU'LL LEAD
- The dining room. This is the heart of the role and about two-thirds of the Company's revenue, and you lead it directly. You'll own the front door, reservations, and table flow, visit every table, keep service smooth and well-paced, and step in gracefully when something goes wrong.
- The kitchen, through the Chef. The Chef owns the menu, the recipes, and the daily work in the kitchen. You own the standards, the results, and the accountability, so the kitchen and the front of house run as one team.
- The retail shop, through the Retail Manager. The Retail Manager runs the shop day to day. You'll coach them, set clear goals, and help grow retail sales by turning tea guests into shop customers.
- The business. You'll own the full profit and loss statement (P&L) and build the budget and business plan with the owners. You'll manage labor and payroll and grow sales across the dining room, retail, carryout, catering, and private parties.
- The people. You'll keep the business fully staffed, fully trained, and fully engaged. You'll coach your leaders and shift leads, develop the next trainers and leaders, and make accountability feel normal.
YOU MIGHT BE THE ONE IF YOU ARE:
- An outstanding restaurateur. You have a proven record leading dining room service in a high-standard hospitality setting, and you set the pace for great food service.
- A proven operator. You've run a business, not just a shift. You've owned a P&L, built budgets, and turned numbers into action.
- A leader of leaders. You get the best out of department heads and build teams that perform whether or not you're in the building. You know kitchens well enough to hold a chef to quality, consistency, and cost.
- A floor leader and coach. You're visible and hands-on, and you give real-time feedback and recognition that make people better.
- Commercially minded. You're comfortable with schedules, labor numbers, sales data, and inventory across a restaurant and a shop.
- Warm, generous, and energetic. You bring out the best in the people around you.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE HERE:
- Guests feel cared for, and the reviews show it. The dining room and the shop feel like one seamless experience. The business meets or beats its budget. Your kitchen and retail leaders are strong and accountable. The team knows what's expected of them, and turnover is low. You've built a bench of leaders ready to grow with the Company.
